CHANGE of office scene

On the day we had decided that the office scene would be better in a different room. So we had gained permission from the headteacher to use his office in our 2 minute opening he had agreed to this and let us use his room. By changing the room, we were able to have better angles in the opening and more of a office desk that the detective could use.

We had taken various images of the office while filming, when looking back of the clips the film was better in the headteachers office than using the connections room. The pro was the desk space, alot of folders so it had set the scene but the cons of using the office was that we had a time limitation but e worked well with the time.

The new office which we used this was the entrance of the door, we had to make sure we did not include the sign on he door in our film.

This is what would be the main area thats going to be shown in the scene. This is where Jamiul and Sana dicuss information about the victim.

Jamiul telling Sana when she will walk in, Ruhan was standing in the side and was seen by sana so he had told her when to walk in.

We was trying to set the angle of the camera so it was not too zoomed in when Sana had walked past it.

We had decided in this part of the scene i would film over Sana shoulder when Jamiul was talking vice versa.

Filming for the outside scene

This is the part of the film where they would be a flashback of the girl that had been missing or murdered. When filming at this location there was a few inferences from the public as they were walking through so we had stopped and allowed them to walk through. When we had created practise runs we had made a few changes while we was working through the scene, this was mainly set on how the angles would be when myself or Ruhan were walking. We did not leave till all members of the group were happy with what was filmed.

In this photo we were discussing if filming form in front would be the best or filming from behind.

Setting angles in the office scene

When getting ready to record the office scene we had to find a room in the school that did not look too much like a class room. We had decided on a room to use, and we had decided how we was going to cover the displays on the walls by using blue borders, this had covered up most of the display which had come in to the scene. We had gained permission from the schools to use the boards.

We had decided to have a small practise in the room and see what camera angles and shots we would use while we was doing this we had taken images along the way.

In this image we was trying to decide how we would have the angle when sana walks in to the room jamiul was showing me what we are trying to record when sana walks in and where she would walk.

Sana and Jamiul discussing how sana would walk in to the room and where she would walk up to, also wen she would be out of the camera's view.

Also being discussed how would she know when to come in as she can not stand directly in front of the door as the camera would be able to see her through the window so we decide that ruhan would stand in side in view of the window where he can see sana on the outside to let her know when to enter the room.

Checking if the angle is right while recoding..

Setting the camera when sana will walk in to the room, the boys were setting the camera at different angles to see which shot would be the best.

The boards behind Ruhan and jamiul we had to make sure they were not shown while filming the scene

While acting the scene we had decide to change the script and small changes were made while doing the practice scene to see what would work out the best.

While recording we had saw a small minor mistake that we had made, when recording one part of the scene the coke bottle was not there, than recoding the next part of the scene the coke bottle was put there, this had made us realise that we need to be more aware! while i was recording i did not even notice...

Ready set go!

Editing our preliminary

In the lesson sir had given us back our preliminary videos which we had to start to import in to Final cut express HD. Once i had imported this i began to edit the clip with my teachers help, he had showed me which toolbars that had to be used the main section of the software i was using are the 3 images below.

Scouting for a location

We had visited different locations around Grovehill mainly looking at subways around the area which suits our particular scene the best! Below I have added images of the different locations that we had found and we have chosen the location that we liked the best and completed a small run through on how we would work at this location, this may change when we do the actual 2 minute clip but we were just trying to think how we would use the location to the best of our ability. Overall we had looked at 2 subways and field for our outside location and we have looked at two class rooms for our location in the school, the school location would be uploaded soon as we are waiting from written permission from a teacher.

Risk Assesment

As a group we had created a risk assessment, this is so that the group is safe while filming in a certain location. The risk assessment will be used every time we film at a certain location. We had visited our chosen location and wrote down what we could see that would be a risk in that area, and realized that risk may increase if the weather conditions change to frost or snow as we are mostly based outside when filming.

Action Plan

Today the group had a brain storm to create a action plan for this week. We all had shared ideas and came to a conclusion of what to do. We had set ourselves targets to complete a certain section of the work by the end of this week.

Ø      To write up our final version of a synopsis which has been changing a lot for a couple a weeks but now we have decided that we have got our synopsis just right.

Ø      We aim to complete a final logo and title design for our production video.

Ø      To go on a location scout today and look at the different areas in Grovehill that we will use in our videos. We are looking for a location that has a small ally way and a quiet area which will suit the scene of our synopsis.

Ø      We will also complete a risk assessment of the chosen location that we find and asses what the risk may be, this will be discussed as a group as we will be working together to look at the risks.

Week 5

This week we had a different activity that was set for us; we had mark blogs that were made by other students in the years above us. We were given a mark grid and had to mark each section depending on if they had completed the following sections that were on the mark grid. They had included 4 levels which where worded

Level 1: Poor
Level 2: Basic
Level 3: Proficient
Level 4: Excellent

Overall we had marked 4 examples with the first example I had given it the overall mark band basic, this was because there was no different types of media components that were used it was I a basic power point presentation, also it had seemed that the information that was gathered did not seem like a 10 weeks worth of work.

Example 2 had information provided in a blog it had all the information included there was a lot of information on research of different genres also a small amount of information on the target audience. Information on props was detailed which had helped to bring the grade up and overall I had given the second example an Excellent.

Example 3 this blog had a little amount of information on the props ad location also I had not seen many story boards I don’t think I had found a story board but I could see that overall the person had uses there time well on presentation ad consumed there time well and blogged regularly There was a lot of information about the audience ad a lot of time ad effort given in research of similar products this had helped the grade to be a level 3.

Example 4 had a lot of information o the actors ad what they had needed for there organisation but the rest of the information that was on the blog was basic ad it had so I had given it the overall level 2 basic grade.

Below is the mark grid that i had used

Marking Grid

At the start of the lesson we had a brain storming task to complete, we had to list down what we think that would be needed when we are at our shooting location so the first 5 minutes we had created a shooting checklist and below is a list that we had drew up as a whole class

Tripod
Scripts
Story board
camera charger
Actors
Make up artist
Production notes
Health and Safety on location
Actors numbers
A base to access water, toilet etc

After this we had looked at various images and talked about the Mise en scene in each image below i have found an image and described what is shown in the image.

In this picture you are bale to see candles that are lighted on the table which make the girl stand out in the image as the light is focused in the position that she is seated on. You are able to notice that the other actors in this image are not in the light and are in the darker shaded part of the image this helps you understand that the camera focus is suppose to be on the girl. This image is a long shot as it shows the whole family in the image including the table that they are seated on. You are able to see who the characters are in the image typically I think that it is a daughter and her parents eatig dinner together.

Than we had began to use a camera and figure out the different technique that can be used on the camera, so we had to work in a group and play with the setting we had used a blue paper and set the camera focus on to that colour. Than once we had moved the camera around the room it looked more of an orange colour and bright like it was a summers day. Than we had put a yellow sheet of paper in front of the camera lense to set the colour manually than we had moved the camera around the room and the colour had tined to a blue tone. This had given us a idea to use as a flashback in out two minute opening we were discussing to focus the camera on the blue paper which would set the camera to have a orange tone so the flash back scenery would look different to the other scenes.

Week 4

Today we had to present what we had what decided what our synopsis was also other information which includes the target audience, age rating etc. In our group we had decided to discuss a section each which we had done, below is the presentation we had presented to the class.

Week 3 Preliminary Video

This was the week when we got the chance to do a practical; it was the first time we worked in a group to create a video. As Jamiul and Sana were acting in the group Ruhan as well as Jamiuls were fixing the camera angles while I was talking the group through what I had understood from the story board. The clip had lasted for 2 minutes; we had used Jamiuls story board. It started with the character walking through the corridor as the camera shot is behind Sana as she was walking towards the door, than Sana puts her hand towards the handle and pushes it down. Than from the other side of the door a close up is made towards the door handle. Than Sana walks in to the room and the camera angle changes showing Sana and part of Jamiuls back Sana asks Jamiul to return the book than the camera angle changes showing Jamiuls face and Sanas back as he replies to her thank you for the book. The camera angle changes once again as Sana is walking out the door than the scene ends with just the door showing.

Analyis on 2 Films

The second film that i had decided to work on was Saw 6 this is because it helped us find our story line to our opening clip and has a similar game structure ass it is all about time.

The film production is called Lionsgate as it approaches to the logo you are able to see that it begins showing chains moving which is similar to what the film is about as it involves metal chains which are used on the victims in the film. As the film continues you are able to see that the film was released by the Lionsgate production team this is shown in the credits. Than it continues and shows that the twisted pictures are also involved in this film release.

Than the camera angle comes as the transitions changes from a grey background in to a room which contains metal things and the camera zooms into the hand of a person, and a close up of the leech on the hand is made. Than the camera angle changes to the back of the person sitting on the chair. More credits are shown the credits dissolve and the camera angle is made as a close up to the persons hand.

That the camera shot is shown ¾ of the persons shot is taken as it moves around showing a head brace on the persons head camera continues moving around the person using the 180 degrees space, the women begins shaking and wakes up than the shot changes.

Camera zooms in from behind the character as she runs towards the gate. Calling the other mans name, as she is confused and lost that the camera switches showing her guy work colleague so a quick transition is made. Than the camera does a 180 degree turn on the mans face showing the room and what he is around.

As the camera started showing the guy Anthony and it done the 180 degree turn on him, he begins to shake and scream as he does not know where he is the camera does a complete close up on the back of his neck which is shown below as this string was pulled the game had began.

Mise en Scene
As you are able to see from other screen shots the props in the film are saws, chains and knifes mostly lethal weapons that are set on the side. This gives the viewer awareness of what the scene would be about and it instantly shows what type of genre the film is. The costumes the actors wear are smart which shows that they may have been kidnapped after work, they wear dull colours like light blue and white it fits in to there scene as the room is dull, has dripping water and chains etc. Lighting in the scene is dark and not to bright which helps the effect of the scene come together this shows to the viewer the mood of the scene which would be dark and damp. The makeup shown on the characters is not bright and beautiful, the women’s hair is messy she looks drained out in the scene, and the man once he wakes up he has a sweaty look on his face as he begins to scream in the scene, the makeup suits the scene and both actors have the scruffy look.

Sound:
Digetic sound: When she lifts herself up from the chair it gives a realistic squeaking sound. Women begin to scream ‘help’ which is heard by the other actor in the room behind a metal gate. She sees the other guy and warns him not to get up as she knew what the consequences would be he replies ‘what’s going on’. Sound also heard by the women was when she got up form the chair the light switched on and had began to sizzle.

Non Diegetic sound: When the women woke up and begin touching the metal head brace on her head, extra sound effects are given which is not heard by the actor as it is to give an extra effect while the viewer is watching the film. As the camera shows the characters it makes a swoosh sound for the extra effect.

Score: This is a sound track that is played while the credits are being played at the beginning of the film; this sound track is mysterious and suits the scene that is on coming. This gives the viewer goose bumps as they are unaware of the upcoming scenes.

Week 2 Story Board

Below is a story board i created in week 2, my drawing is not the best i am not very artistic but i tried my very best.

In shot 1 she walks down the corridor towards the door, the camera is facing the back of the character so her face is not visible.

Shot 2 she approaches the door handle and begins to turn the handle

Shot 3 this is the shot when the door is opening and the shot stops when she is through the door and has her hand on the door and you are able to see the characters face.

Shot 4 camera angle changes to side view as the character walks towards the person sitting on the chair by the table so you are only able to see the side of both of the characters

Story Board part1

Shot 5 she approaches the girl on the table and taps the girl on the shoulder, the girls head is down and is reading than the camera angle stays the same as the girl lifts her head which that shows both of their faces in the screen.

Shot 6 the girl gets up before this shot and they begin to talk and argue the character that walks in the room starts to move her arms round while she is speaking.

Shot 7 as they continue arguing the character that walked in the room pushes the other girl and storms off.

Shot 8 only a slamming sound is heard and the last shot is of the door that is shut.

Research

In our group we had set a task for ourselves to research for a genre each. This is so we can decide what genre we want to do for our 2 minute video. The genre that I am going to research on is comedy.

Comedy is something that makes us laugh! Comedy started with silent films like Charlie Chaplin which was a hit in the 1800’s. Since the decades have passed on now comedies involve romance. Romantic comedies are the refreshing for some people, the movies are usually fun but sometimes may seem to be a bit cheesy. Movies like friends with benefit’s….Some people love them and some just dislike them but still the Hollywood industry is popular. Also gross humor is seen as comedy this is to shock the audience with humor of scenes that may involve nudity.  An example of gross humor is the movie bridesmaids which were seen as the gross out comedy of the year as it had lived up to its 'gross out' names!
